Outside The Lines Contest!

We love folks who support the families who like to live "outside the lines." We've found a great book that's perfect for promoting such ideas, and we're giving a copy away! Yellow Bird Project's The Indie Rock Coloring Book is a fantastic and interactive combination of colorful artistry, music and charity.

If you are an indie music lover, or are looking for ways to pass down contemporary musical culture to your kid, this is the perfect way to do it. Look at it this way: you may just keep your daughter from going "GaGa" (who, by the way—we also kind of love) for a few more years as she develops a taste for the more sophisticated fare of The Shins, Devendra Banhart and Grizzly Bear.

Each illustration is created for the bands by talented artist Andy J. Miller, who has created a unique expression of art and music.

"a great example of how you can turn your love for music and art into something that can really help." -- Pierre de Reeder

The added bonus, whether you get this for your child or yourself, is that the money goes to various charities that the bands have selected.

Here's how the contest works:

Just comment below on why this coloring book would make a great gift. Here are some examples:

  • "It's a good gift for my son - to teach him a thing or two."
  • "With crayons and a bottle of wine, it makes a fab dinner party gift!"

Be sure to leave a way to get in touch with you, like an email address. We will choose our favorite comment to win a copy of The Indie Rock Coloring Book! Contest ends on Sunday, March 7th at Midnight, so hurry and comment!

So, tell us what you think -- comment below!

(Also, if you can't wait... you can get one from our friends at Chronicle Books.)

I always try to impart to my children the importance of art & music. This does both.
Oooh good one Stephanie!
I wanna color every page, then post them like wall paper in our spare room (some day to be baby room) like Floyd's did in their salon ... where I got one of the worst haircuts, ever. Nice decor, though. :)
My kids can color dozens of these pages which I will then screenprint onto a lovely, risqué minidress and send to closeminded Mrs. Caldwell, an elementary teacher of mine who, in 1979, gave my "lump of clay" a failing grade because I shaped it to resemble my Uncle Bart rather than the bowl my teacher asked for. To this day my mom still proudly displays my lump of failing clay, referring to it as "a child's symbol of artistic freedom." Thanks, Mom... and thanks Outside the Lines!
I think it would make a great coloring book because it is different....I am tired of the same old same old coloring books!
this is the ultimate hip-parent gift. i love it!
I THINK ALL CHILDREN SHOULD HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO EXPERIENCE MUSIC AND THE ARTS. I HAVE MADE SURE MY CHILDREN WERE INVOLVED SOMEHOW AND NOW I GET TO DO THE SAME FOR MY GRANDCHILDREN. THIS COLORING BOOK IS A REALLY NEAT IDEA!
I would give this to my sister! We are both very artistic and she loves indie music, I think she'd appreciate this a lot!
