Gayby Boom! August 17, 2010

I am expecting the stork to bring a very lovely video package from Sabina in Vancouver this week and I’m highly excited about it. Sabina’s a buddy assigned to me at the Vancouver Out On Screen film festival a few years back. She was a great buddy at an awesome festival and I look forward to seeing her project.

Gayby Boom! August 13, 2010

Today was a Facebook chat you up day. My fingers were busy. If I see you online and you’re under my Gayby Boom friends list, I’m gonna start chattin’ you up and try to make a personal connection. It has worked great so far. Well, 95% of the time. And that’s a pretty smooth number, I’d say.

Gayby Boom! August 9th, 2010

August 9, 2010

I love when I get in the groove. You know that groovy feeling, when all seems to be lining up. I’ve been editing a new promo piece for Gayby Boom to put online. Working on a tangible piece always feels good. Well, unless I’m under deadline and the idea or style is just not coming through me into the project. It’s good to recognize those feelings though, as it allows one to better understand the times when your instinct and creativity is a flowing. Take note because that can be relative to projects and people. Mental note.

Gayby Boom! The Documentary

Gayby Boom! Is a documentary

Through the rest of August, Goodkin will be featuring regular blog posts from Lisa Marie Evans, a documentary filmmaker in the process of making a film called Gayby Boom. Lisa is creating a movie and a movement with her current project by compiling home videos sent in from around the world by LGBT parents and children of, and exploring the ever-evolving family. We are more than happy to help her get the word out there.

Gayby Boomers Top Name Picks™

lesbian moms, two moms, two dads, gay parents, baby names

What is it about most popular baby name lists that are so completely addictive when you are expecting a child? Even if you do not want to name your kid after one of the top ten most popular names, or perhaps especially if you don't, you just have to see what's going on out there in the name zeitgeist.

The Pop Luck Club

Pop Luck Club and Goodkin!

Father's Day is a special day for families across this country. It's a day we get to honor the male parent or partner in our lives, hopefully with something more than a tacky tie or beer mug (not that there's anything wrong with that!), and get to spend some quality time together. With that on the horizon, we wanted to say Happy Father's Day to all the Goodkin fathers out there, and bring to your attention a very special organization.

Nanny to the Gays

Nanny to the gays

It’s no secret that, for generations now, the Hispanic community has helped raise and nurture the children of Los Angeles. I myself am one of those fortunate families that have a Guatemalan nanny who helps me look after my kids. In turn, when I was born, a Mexican woman came to live with my family and stayed with us for 18 years, until I was grown and went off to college. She was, without question, part of the "village", or extended family, that helped raise “the child”.

Two Dads Get Their Dream Girl

Chelsea and her dads

To say sixteen-year-old Chelsea Montgomery-Duban is a daddy’s girl would be like calling Liza Minelli or Barbara Streisand decent singers—an understatement of monumental proportions. Not only does she have one adoring parent, she has two. The fact that they both happen to be dads is not worth mentioning because they are gay, but because they are such remarkable, inspiring and lovely men.

Why We Chose Open Adoption

We actually did NOT have surrogates. We decided to go with open adoption. We started our path to parenthood with no map. We didn't have friends with kids to call and ask about how they did it...we just started looking around reading and asking questions. We found a group in Los Angeles called the Pop Luck Club which was a monthly gathering of gay men and their kids at a small park in Beverly Hills. I remember the first time we went.

On Gay Marriage

I have a problem with gay marriage, specifically my own. Since September 1st, 2009, Vermonters have been able to legally wed. This time around, however, Kim and I can’t just call our local justice of the peace to come by for some pie and a little, “Now, by the power vested in me.”  This time we have Anakin.
