“Tight yoga pants are a nice way of letting people know that you’re spiritual and healthy, can pay $20 a class for yoga, and are very flexible,” wrote a jerk in New York Magazine last summer, about the rise of young women wearing yoga clothes outside the studio. His representation of women like me missed the mark—and a burgeoning demographic: I wasn’t wearing my yoga pants to flaunt my (pretty awesome) degree of fitness. I was wearing them because I was a freelancer.
